Are you planning a move in the near future?

Moving is stressful, and there are a lot of details involved. Many people think about packing, and the actual move itself, but there’s still a lot to be once you’re settling in your place.

Checklist for Settling In

There’s a lot to think about when you’re settling in a new place. To help you keep everything under control and so that you don’t forget anything, here’s a checklist of things you should do in your new house to fully settle in.

Step 1: Clean

Whenever you move to a new place, your first step should always be a deep clean. You can hire a professional maid service to do the dirty work for you, but make sure you do this before unloading all of your belongings.

This is especially important if you’re moving into an apartment. Most buildings say they clean the apartment before you get there, but you may find you want you would like a more thorough cleaning job accomplished.

Step 2: Take Inventory

Moving is busy, and things can easily get lost in the shuffle. Once you have everything in your new place, take inventory of all of your items. Make sure all of your boxes made the trip and that none of your furniture is damaged.

Step 3: Unpack By Room

Unpacking seems like a daunting task, but it’s much more manageable if you break it down by room. Start in your kitchen, bathroom, bedroom or whatever space is the top priority for you. Leave smaller rooms like an office or guest bedroom for later on.

Step 4: Organize

After a big move, you likely want to be done and moved in as quickly as possible. But the best way to unpack is to slow down and make sure everything is put away properly and organized. Don’t just throw everything in a closet and say you’ll organize it later.

Before you move, pack a suitcase with all your necessities. This should have toiletries, some clothes, bath towels and other supplies that can get you through a few days. That way you’re not feeling rushed to get to every box, and you can take the time to put things away in their right place.

Step 5: Take a Break

As noted, moving is a process that happens over time. You can’t expect to move and be fully settled into your new place within hours, days or even weeks.

Settling in takes time, so don’t pressure yourself to have everything perfect right after you get into your place. Take breaks when you’re unpacking, so you don’t get frustrated and stressed out with the process.

Our final tip is to work with a quality moving company. Good movers will pack your items up correctly, put everything where it’s supposed to go and overall make your move a more pleasant experience. All of these things will set you up to get settled in your new place even sooner.
